How OctoDoc works

Write it. Understand it. Sign it.

One place to create the document, prepare the signing path, and return the signed PDF to everyone.

The whole path

The document does not disappear between tools.

OctoDoc keeps the work together from the first draft through the signed PDF. The same document moves through four clear stages.

Create a document

One prompt moves the work forward.

Switch between creating and signing. This interactive walkthrough shows the intended flow; captured product evidence is published only after the corresponding screen has shipped.
  1. Create the exact document.

Start from a prompt, a reusable template, or the PDF you already have. Read it, edit it, and approve the words.

  2. Prepare one signing-ready version.

Add the people, place their fields on the real pages, choose the order, and check the outgoing file.

  3. Give every signer a clear path.

Each person opens one secure link, reads the whole document, completes their fields, and reviews before signing.

  4. Return the signed PDF to everyone.

After the final signature, the sender and every signer can keep the same signed file.

Create and understand

Start with what you have. End with words you approve.

Create from a prompt, choose a reusable starting point, or bring in a PDF. The document stays readable while you work on it.

Ask about the document

Ask Octo can explain a clause in plain language and point you back to the exact words and page it used.

Approve every change

Ask for a rewrite and OctoDoc shows the proposed change. Nothing enters the document until you accept it.

Before a version moves forward, OctoDoc checks that the PDF says the same thing as the text you approved.

Prepare and send

Put the right fields in front of the right people.

Add the people who need to sign, assign their fields, choose the order, and inspect the outgoing document before anyone receives it.

Place signatures, initials, dates, names, emails, and text fields directly on the real pages. OctoDoc may suggest a location, but a person must confirm every field.

When you send, OctoDoc freezes the version you reviewed. Resending a request cannot replace the document under an open signing session.

Review and sign

The signer sees the document, not a maze.

There is nothing to install. Each invited person opens the document in a browser with a free account tied to the invited email address.

The signer can read every page, download or print the file, and move between only the fields assigned to them. They can type a signature or draw one.

A separate review step catches missing fields before the final action. An expired invitation or changed document stops the session instead of producing a partial result.

Complete and return

Everyone leaves with the same signed PDF.

When the final signer finishes, OctoDoc completes the file once and gives the sender and every signer access to the result.

Only the fields people approved enter the frozen PDF. Ask Octo answers, explanations, and proposed edits never become part of the signed file on their own.

The sender can see who is still waiting, who has signed, and where to download the signed PDF.

OctoDoc describes the cryptographic result it produces. It does not promise that a court will accept a particular agreement.

Pricing

We charge for insight, not for signatures.

Sending is unlimited on every paid plan. Signer accounts are free and nothing needs to be installed.

What scales with price

How many files you send, how many reusable templates you keep, document retention, administration, and whether requests come from your own domain.

What never scales with price

Free signer accounts, the number of marks on a file, the review step before signing, and access to the signed PDF.

Questions

The practical questions, answered.

What can I start with?

Create a document from a prompt, start from a reusable template, or bring in an existing PDF. OctoDoc keeps the editable text and the rendered PDF tied together so the version you approve is the version you prepare for signing.

Can Ask Octo change my document?

Not by itself. Ask Octo can answer a question with a citation or propose an edit as a visible diff. A person must accept that exact proposal against the current version before the document changes, and Ask Octo output never enters a signed file on its own.

Why does every signer need a free account?

The account proves control of the invited email address and gives the signer one place to return to their documents. There is nothing to install, and signers never pay.

Can a signer download or print before signing?

Yes. The signer can read every page in the browser and can download or print the document before the final action and after completion.

What happens if someone makes a mistake?

Each signer gets a separate review-and-correct step before the final action. Missing required marks, an expired invitation, or a stale document version stops completion instead of producing a partial result.

What does sealed mean in OctoDoc?

Sealed is the terminal state: every required person has signed, only the approved marks have been flattened into the frozen PDF, the frozen bytes have been digitally signed, and the resulting PDF has been stored once and returned to everyone. We describe that cryptographic result; we do not promise that a court will accept a particular agreement.

Do you train AI on my documents?

Our position is a contractual prohibition on training; retention per our provider agreement. That is the whole claim, it is the wording our subprocessor list carries beside the model provider's row, and we will not upgrade it until a stronger addendum is executed and filed.

What can I not send through OctoDoc?

Wills, codicils, testamentary trusts, family-law matters, court filings, primary-residence default and eviction notices, and several other categories are refused at send time with the rule that fired named on screen. Refusing is not a claim that an electronic signature there is void; it means OctoDoc is not the right tool for that document.

Is OctoDoc free during Beta and Early Release?

Yes. Everything is currently free during Beta and Early Release. The plan comparison shows the prices and limits that will apply after Early Release.

Can more than one person sign?

Yes. Add each signer, assign only the marks they need to complete, and choose whether people sign in order. Each person receives their own bounded signing session for the same frozen document version.

Can someone receive the document without signing it?

Yes. Add them as a copied party. They receive read-only access to the final signed document without receiving marks or signing authority.

Where does the signed PDF go?

After the final signer finishes, OctoDoc completes the file once. The sender and every signer can return to OctoDoc to download the same signed PDF, and copied parties receive read-only access.
